Description
Adhesive Removers
A primary challenge in document conservation is reversing old, degraded commercial clear tapes, pressure-sensitive labels, or animal glues that have cross-linked with original substrates.
- Natural Terpene Removers: Highly filtered, industrial-grade citrus extracts (like Kontakt Chemie Label Off 50). They dissolve modern pressure-sensitive labels and rubber-based adhesive backings on paper, without requiring aggressive physical scraping.
- Groom Stick (Molecular Trapping Clay): A specialized, entirely dry, ultra-tacky natural rubber compound. When gently rolled across an artifact, it chemically lifts and holds onto old sticky residues, soot, and rubber degradation products cleanly.
- Enzymatic Solutions: Purified water-soluble enzymes (like amylase for starches or protease for animal proteins). These selectively digest legacy starch-based paste stains or historic animal glues without warping or stripping underlying organic fibers.
