Description
Professional Bookcloth & Binding Fabrics
Bookcloth provides the exterior protective skin for books, boxes, and protective portfolios. Conservation-grade cloth features specialized backings to prevent liquid glues from bleeding through to the face of the fabric during installation.
- Paper-Backed Bookcloth (Muzan & Iris): Premium woven cotton or linen laminated to an acid-free paper backing. The backing acts as a barrier, absorbing bookbinding glue cleanly and allowing for precise wrapping without altering the texture of the outer fabric.
- Starched Bookcloth (Calico & Buckram): Fabrics filled or coated with natural starch or a light acrylic wash to seal the weave.
- Starch-Filled: Highly traditional, breathable, and easy to mold over hinges.
- Buckram: Heavy-duty, stiffened fabric that offers superior moisture and wear resistance, making it perfect for heavily handled reference library books.
- Note on Custom Orders: All bookcloth is sold by the yard and hand-cut into continuous sheets. Widths generally range from 36″ to 53″. Because digital monitors can display color swatches differently, purchasing a physical sample book is highly recommended for critical color matching.
