Archival Packing & Cushioning Materials

Museums, galleries, and archives require highly specialized wrapping substrates. Standard commercial plastics and bubble wraps trap harmful moisture, static, or volatile chemicals, which can cause rapid surface deterioration. Conservation packing materials are engineered to shield artifacts from physical shock and environmental fluctuations without transferring harmful compounds. 

• Acid-Free Tissue Paper (Buffered & Unbuffered):
  • Buffered Tissue: Contains calcium carbonate to neutralize ambient acidity. It is ideal for cotton, linen, wood, and paper artifacts.
  • Unbuffered Tissue: Chemically neutral tissue free of alkaline additives. It is strictly required for protein-based artifacts like silk, wool, leather, and silver-gelatin photographs. 
• Tyvek (Style 1443R): A soft, non-woven, flash-spun high-density polyethylene fabric. It is water-resistant, breathable, and lint-free. This material prevents surface abrasion when wrapped directly around sculptures, textiles, or framed paintings. 
• Archival Foam (Ethafoam & Volara): High-density, chemically inert, cross-linked polyethylene foams. They are easily carved or custom-molded to create snug, shock-absorbent storage cavities for fragile artifacts inside transit crates.
